Embedding a Passion for Quality across the Lifecycle
- we just love Testers!
So
many times I hear testers stating that the requirements, or the developers or
the configuration management have let them down – too many times to recall - and
then the self same testers start asking to extend the testing time (I recently
worked on a project where the tester was, without any plan or thought, asking
for 12, yes 12, cycles of testing!). Is it any wonder that the project sees
testing as an overhead rather than a really valued part of the lifecycle, adding
real value!
Intriguingly I see the same issues in both Agile and structured projects!
What I don’t hear enough of is testers looking at the lifecycle and suggesting
how to reduce testing by understanding the risks and pushing for improvements in
requirements capture, development or configuration management. It’s been a big
issue for years but with the arrival of the outsourcing of testing and the rise
of the business need for fixed price testing contract, the need to get the
quality right before testing is paramount in enabling test to be efficient and
effective.
Using case studies this presentation will look at how different testing can be
when everyone has a reason to buy into quality, and how this positively builds
people’s perception of testing – taking testing from being seen an overhead to a
becoming valued and passionately adhered to stage of the project!
We will look at how a passion for quality should not just sit within the Test
team, but how with the right incentives testing can ensure this can be embedded
at every stage of the lifecycle, together with showing the benefits that this
approach can achieve.
