Maturity Levels

Maturity Levels indicate the level of organisational process maturity or capability – this is a component that results from an assessment and therefore is not a component that is categorised.

Process Areas

Process Areas identify a cluster of test-related elements that must be addressed to achieve a Maturity Level – this is a component that results from an assessment and therefore is not categorised.

Purpose

The purpose sections in the TMMi Model describe the purpose of Process Areas and is an informative component.

Introductory Note

The introductory notes sections in the TMMi Model describe the major concepts covered by Process Areas and are informative components.

Scope

The scope sections in the TMMi Model identifies the test practice areas that are addressed by Process Areas and are informative components.

Specific Goals

Specific Goals describes the unique characteristic that must be present to satisfy a Process Area and are required components

Generic Goals

Generic Goals describe the characteristics that must be present to institutionalise the processes that implement a Process Area and are required components

Specific Practice

Specific Practices describe activities that are considered important in achieving the associated Specific Goal and are expected components

Typical Work Product

Typical work products are sample outputs from a Specific Practice and are informative components

Sub-practice

Sub-practices are a detailed description guiding the interpretation and implementation of the associated Specific Practice and are informative components

Generic Practice

Generic Practices are a description of an activity that is considered important in achieving the associated Generic Goal and are expected components

Generic Practice Elaboration

Generic Practice elaborations provide guidance on how the Generic Practice should be applied uniquely to the Process Area and are informative components

Supporting Informative Components

Supporting informative components are:

  • Notes – text that can accompany any other model component
  • Examples – one or more examples to clarify a concept or a described activity
  • References – a pointer to additional or more detailed information in related Process Areas
